Welcome new year, 2015! 2014 is finally over, and let’s have a moment to go through what happened in Malaysia’s Hallyu scene this year. Although 2014 wasn’t a good year for K-pop in general, it did not stop the continuous flow of Korean stars coming to our shores. Below is a list of Korean-related events that were held (or supposed to be held) in Malaysia for the year 2014.
JANUARY ~ MARCH
JAN 04 – Running Man’s master of betrayal Lee Kwang Soo was in town for his solo fan meeting, and makes his mark as the first Korean artist to grace our shores in 2014.
JAN 10 – Super Junior’s Kyuhyun & Kangin visited Malaysia to attend the grand opening of Kyochon at 1 Utama Shopping Mall.
JAN 11 – LEESSANG 1st Asia Showcase. Members Gary & Gil performed.
JAN 18 – Oh.My.Hyun$hik! We hate bad news! ZE:A Illusionist Live in Kuala Lumpur was cancelled due to contractual disagreements.
MAR 01 – UKISS performed at Planet EUPE Music Fest. First K-pop event in Sg. Petani, Kedah.
MAR 08 – OUCH! Another cancellation! F.Y.I. On Stage with LEDAPPLE was cancelled due to last minute sponsorship changes.
MAR 08 – Lee Kwang Soo is back to officiate the opening of Caffe Bene’s first branch in Malaysia. Either Malaysians love Kwangsoo, or Kwangsoo loves Malaysia too much :p
MAR 16 – To express their love and gratitude for the VIPs, G-Dragon, Taeyang & Seungri managed to spare time amidst their busy work schedule to meet their beloved fans in ‘Thinking Of You’ Fan Meeting.
MAR 29 – RAIN was scheduled to perform at Twin Towers Alive but the event was cancelled a few days before the concert as a sign of respect to the families, friends and loved ones of the passengers and crew of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. #RememberingMH370
APRIL ~ JUNE
APR 26 till APR 27 - A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J……Alp
MAY 24 – BLACKJACKS were H.A.P.P.Y when 2NE1 held their 2014 world tour concert “ALL OR NOTHING” in Malaysia. The crowd was happier when they managed to watch WINNER performing as the guest artist, prior to their debut!
JUNE 07 - SPARTAAAAAA!!! Kim Jong Kook made a special appearance for Encorp Strand Mall‘s grand opening in Kota Damansara.
JUNE 08 till JUNE 12 – GOT7 make a surprised visit to Malaysia to film their new brand music video titled ‘A’. But who knows, GOT7 was the one who got surprised when their secret visit was welcomed by a lot of fans at the airport. And yes, the members arrived without make-up.LOL
JUNE 20 till JUNE 22 – The BOSS went to 3 states for 3 showcases with photo session & autograph session with the fans. From Seremban to Melaka, they finally wrapped up their Malaysia tour at 1 Shamelin Mall in Cheras.
JULY ~ SEPTEMBER
JULY 12 – Sungha Jung Live in Kuala Lumpur faces a problem as Sungha’s agency claimed the previous organizer is deemed faulty and no longer credible in handling the event. But they are quick to replace the organizer and the show still ON! Phewwww~~
AUG 3 – MR. MR. 1st Concert in Kuala Lumpur was cancelled due to conflict between the organizer and the artist’s agency. WinningInsightM. claimed they were not able to get in contact with the organizer, hence they decided to cancel the concert.
AUG 8 – HAHA sets the crowd crazy at K-Festival 2014. His appearance was simple and short, but it gave an impact to the fans who have waited for him since morning.
AUG 8 till Aug 10 – A few months after they first came to Malaysia, AlphaBAT came back to Malaysia again for ‘Selamat Hari Raya Showcase’ at Ipoh, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur. Despite their showcase name, they didn’t sing any ‘Raya’ song.><
AUG 9 – After years of waiting for MBLAQ to grace our shores, they were finally here at the K-Festival 2014! Eventhough, the crowd misses Lee Joon!
AUG 9 – Malaysian’s favourite artist at GDA 2013, CNBLUE was here for ‘Can’t Stop in Kuala Lumpur’. Although we were at Pavilion with MBLAQ the same night, we heard CNBLUE rocked the stadium!
AUG 15 – Boys Republic held an autograph session for their newly-released Tour Repackage album at Speedy Sunway Pyramid.
AUG 16 – MTV has given the honour to Boys Republic to represent the K-pop act to take the world stage this year. #MTVWorldStage
SEPT 13 – C-JeS announced on their official homepage that JYJ’s 2014 Asia Tour schedule includes Malaysia as one of the concert stops, but nothing happened till date. And we just gonna leave this as unsolved mystery.
SEPT 14 – TOUCH Fan Tour in Kuala Lumpur suffered the same fate as MR. MR. as they were using the same ‘missing’ organizer.
SEPT 25 till SEPT 28 – EvoL Showcase at Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka. We are also invited to their celebration party at The Summit Hotel.
SEPT 28 – Lee Minho was back in Malaysia once again and this time he treated fans like Divas at the OSIM 35th Anniversary celebration
OCTOBER ~ DECEMBER
OCT 4 – Yiruma Live in Malaysia 2014
OCT 11 – Hello! Eric Nam. Eric greeted Malaysia fans at Klang Parade. We also got a chance to hangout with him on the same day!
OCT 12 – F.Y.I. On Stage with Eric Nam. An intimate show with Eric!
OCT 17 – Actress Lee Yeon Hee was here for an exclusive appearance at SK-II’s private event
NOV 1 – RACE START!!! Running Man Fan Meeting with Ji Sukjin, Kim Jongkook, Song Jihyo, HAHA and Lee Kwangsoo
NOV 26 – MCM Malaysia surprised the fans by bringing Korean superstar Rain, the newest ambassador for their leather products to grace the event.
NOV 29 - 2AM was in Malaysia for the launching of dal.komm COFFEE in Damansara Uptown
DEC 7 – TOPP DOGG First Showcase 2014 Live in Kuala Lumpur
DEC 15 – SISTAR in Malaysia as a guest performer for AirAsia’s 13th Anniversary. It’s a closed event! Everyone is wishing their company can do the same!
DEC 21 – Lukies wish to see LUNAFLY Showcase in Malaysia this year is not happening as the show cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
What a crazy year for Kpop fans in Malaysia! Korean artists not only came for a showcase/concert, but also for the grand opening of cafes, malls and other products and services. Out of 36 events, 7 was cancelled this year
